We are beyond thrilled to be heading back home! We can't wait to see Diesel-our little dog and to sleep in our own beds!! This morning they told us that Brent has a bug that only cystic fibrosis patients that have had kidney transplants. They said its 1/1,000,000 chances of getting it! He has always been 1/1,000,000 and now science has proved it! ;)  Thanks again for holding us up in prayer once more as we travel through these hills and valleys. There is NO doubt that they are what have gotten us through these long days! Thanks for taking time out of your days to pray for us-we love and appreciate all of you!! -Trudy (&Brent)

We received more details on Brent's first blood cultures this morning. They came back gram negative which means there is an infection going on somewhere in his body. They also figued out that the culture was drawn from his port. This could mean his port is infected and they have to pull it out and replace it with a new one or it could mean there is still an unknown source of the infection in his body. They do have him on a broad spectrum IV antibiotic twice a day so this should help get a jump on the treatment until the final results come back which shows what this bug is suseptable to. Once that is figured out then they may change his antibiotics to target this bug even better.  His creative has risen again to 1.6 - it keeps going up and down- could be as simple as how much water he is/is not taking in. This morning the doctors decide to do a kidney ultrasound and a sinus CT. We hope to get those results tomorrow.  Not sure if I mentioned this before but he has been having a ...

Yesterday started off with great news!! The final results of the biopsy showed no rejection. We are very thankful for that! We were also told that we would most likely be going home but that changed late morning when his blood cultures came back. They had drawn two samples and one came back positive with bacteria. Because of this they didn't want to discharge him in case he needs antibiotics. So yesterday they drew two more samples of blood cultures-one from his port and one from his arm. It could be that the first culture was positive because the procedure was contaminated. It goes to show how valuable each procedure is big or small! We are hoping it is just procedure contamination and we are hoping the second set comes back negative. He has been feeling good. He has been having some chills but he hasn't had a temp since we have been here.  Yesterday was a pretty long day for us. Thinking we were going to go home and then not. But there is only so much TV and iPad entertainmen...

We got a room last night up on the 7th floor-top floor of the hospital. The view of the skyline is awesome. Below is a picture but it doesn't so it justice! Not much really happening here. Waiting for test results mainly. The preliminary rejection tests are negative. Creatinine is down from yesterday from 1.5 to 1.4 which good. We will likely stay till the rejection results are final which is 1 or 2 more days. Brent has felt fairly good today. He has some large polyps in his nose causeing him headaches and he has trouble breathing in and out of his nose. He hasn't had a fever all day and his nausea is better. We are thankful for the improvements. As always thanks SO much for all the prayers, emails and words of encouragement we can truly feel them. 

As a few may know besides our family but many of you probably don't. Over the weekend Brent has had cold/ flu like symptoms (nausea, chills, not much appetite and very tired).  Monday we had a scheduled check up with the kidney transplant doctors. We discussed these symptoms with them and we were instructed to just keep an eye on him. Along with these symptoms his blood work on Monday showed his creatinine (kidney function) was a touch high (that's bad) so they decided to give him a bag of fluids while we were here. After the fluids were complete we went home with instructed that if he would get a temp to call or come to the ER. So home we go! About 8:30 that night his temp rises to 99.8. After giving it ALOT of thought we decided to wait until morning and if it was still high then we would head up. The next morning came and his temperature was still high at 99.9. He went into Bloomington to get his blood drawn to see how his creatinine was after the fluids, hoping it would dro...
