Results and more tests
We received more details on Brent's first blood cultures this morning. They came back gram negative which means there is an infection going on somewhere in his body. They also figued out that the culture was drawn from his port. This could mean his port is infected and they have to pull it out and replace it with a new one or it could mean there is still an unknown source of the infection in his body. They do have him on a broad spectrum IV antibiotic twice a day so this should help get a jump on the treatment until the final results come back which shows what this bug is suseptable to. Once that is figured out then they may change his antibiotics to target this bug even better.
His creative has risen again to 1.6 - it keeps going up and down- could be as simple as how much water he is/is not taking in. This morning the doctors decide to do a kidney ultrasound and a sinus CT. We hope to get those results tomorrow. Not sure if I mentioned this before but he has been having a lot of trouble with his polyps in his nose-to the point he can't breath through his nose. This is a common side effect of CF and they flared up after transplant when he came down on his large prednisone taper. He has been doing special flushes for them ever since the flare up but they don't seem to be helping with any relief. Because of this they ordered the sinus CT. According to the doctors this could all be from a really bad sinus infection. Brent has had an appointment with his sinus doctor this coming wends for a couple weeks so we are praying we will be out by then so he can get some relief from the polyps.
We were greatful for a few visitors over the weekend as it helped pass the time here. We are really hopeful and looking forward to the coming days and praying we get some solid answers and treatment. As long as these hours are here at the hospital I have to be thankful for the boringness because it could be crazy and he could be in the ICU...trying to keeping it all in perspective!
