Stomach surgery

Hey sorry this is a little later in the day. Brent's surgery went well this morning. He went in at 8:40 and was out by 10:45 but he was in recovery until 12:45. He is in the ICU in the surgical unit. Their reason for the ICU room is because of his lung transplant-this way they can watch him closer than if he was on the regular unit. He is doing well but is in a lot of pain. They pumped air into his chest cavity during the surgery so right now that's what's making him the most uncomfortable. I got a room at the Ronald McDonald house for tonight. Dr. Fischecella said he is planning to discharge us in the morning as long as things are going well. Brent's nurse just brought him in a pain pump so this should help A LOT with his pain control...he is pretty restless. Our wonderful dear friend Jenn(lung transplant nurse coordinator) was in to see us-we were both taking a rest & she sneaked in but she didn't get out before brent seen her-luckly! We were so glad to have her come by she is such an awesome person. Please continue to keep her and especially her husband in your prayers-they could really use them.
Thanks to all of you that sent prayers on our behalf today as well...God has been near us!

Dr. Alex was just in. Nothing really new. Pretty much just waiting for those tubes to come out. He explained his meds and when we will need to come back for appt's with him etc. He is one of the nicest Dr's that we have...I say one of because we many that are nice! It's OVER!!!...so far!

He is out of surgery and everything went GREAT!!! It's awesome!!! We are so truly thankful for all that has come over the past hours! He should be extubated by the end of today. I will let you know more when I know!

Good evening! First thing this morning we went to Chicago to meet with the Dr who will be over seeing Brent’s photopheresis treatments. We had all of our questions answered and are hopeful that the treatments will work.  His first treatment will be Thursday morning of this week and we will have to go again on Friday. The treatments have to be done in Chicago and-we were glad to hear-the treatment will only be 2 hrs long!! The one side effects he has is that he can’t be exposed to the sun the first 24 hrs after treatment. This is because they use UV light in the treatment and it takes 24 hrs for his body to absorb any excess of the UV sensitive drug that may be in his body.    Other than that he should feel the same as usual!  He was also scheduled to get a port (under the skin) placed today.
