Dr Came In!

Dr. Alex the lung transplant Dr was just in to see Brent. His hemaglobin is 8.4 as of this morning. The Dr.s are going to decrease his prednisone-it's at 30mg po daily and they are going to drop it down to 25mg po daily. They want him to be no more that 10mg for him to get transplanted because it effects the healing process. His mucous has been pretty thick and hard to get up so they are going to do a breathing treatment med that will help thin it out. The Transplant Dr's and the transplant surgeons are going to discuss his case tomorrow at their weekly meeting so that they are all on the same page. We just continue to pray for lungs and a miracle!

Dr. Alex was just in. Nothing really new. Pretty much just waiting for those tubes to come out. He explained his meds and when we will need to come back for appt's with him etc. He is one of the nicest Dr's that we have...I say one of because we many that are nice! It's OVER!!!...so far!

He is out of surgery and everything went GREAT!!! It's awesome!!! We are so truly thankful for all that has come over the past hours! He should be extubated by the end of today. I will let you know more when I know!

Good evening! First thing this morning we went to Chicago to meet with the Dr who will be over seeing Brent’s photopheresis treatments. We had all of our questions answered and are hopeful that the treatments will work.  His first treatment will be Thursday morning of this week and we will have to go again on Friday. The treatments have to be done in Chicago and-we were glad to hear-the treatment will only be 2 hrs long!! The one side effects he has is that he can’t be exposed to the sun the first 24 hrs after treatment. This is because they use UV light in the treatment and it takes 24 hrs for his body to absorb any excess of the UV sensitive drug that may be in his body.    Other than that he should feel the same as usual!  He was also scheduled to get a port (under the skin) placed today.
